Sounders FC's Roger Levesque visits with fans at Doyle's Public House in Tacoma

The winning goal-scorer in both of Sounders FC's biggest victories of 2009, Roger Levesque enjoys time with fans on Wednesday night at Doyle's Public House in Tacoma.

Roger Levesque is feeling pretty good these days, and staying humble and focused about his role with the 2009 Seattle Sounders. Levesque had his turn on the Sounders FC public relations circuit on Wednesday night at Doyle's Public House in Tacoma. Roger hugged longtime fans, signed shirts, posed for photos and talked about the season. In the back ground Doyle's was replaying the 1:0 win over Columbus. The pub roared when Levesque's winning goal was broadcast.

Levesque is a throwback to the old days of the USL Sounders when only a few thousand bothered to show for matches, and when fans and players mingled more freely than they can or do with most of the new MLS club. It was nice to see Roger up close again and talk about the good old days, and the good new days, too.

Members of the Black Hills Militia were up from the Olympia area to present Roger with a BHM T-shirt and scarf (see photos in video below).

Today on MLSnet.com there is a feature story entitled "Levesque: an unlikely hero." You would think that after waiting six years to score his first goal in an MLS league match, Seattle Sounders FC forward Roger Levesque would have busted out a choreographed goal celebration, or at least showed a little emotion. Nope. After scoring a scrappy goal to help Seattle defeat the Columbus Crew 1-0, Levesque looked like a player who had just scored his 50th rather than his first.

Three days later, Levesque, 28, still wasn't basking in the considerable afterglow of his second huge goal for the club in the last month, the other being the game-winning tally against D.C. United in the U.S. Open Cup final. Instead he was thinking about what the team's victory against the Crew has meant for Sounders FC's chances of making the postseason, which are considerably better following last weekend's slate of games.

"It's not that big of a deal," said Levesque of his goal. "I was just living in the moment, and as far as that specific game goes, it was great to take the lead. There was still a lot of game left, and it was a game we needed to make a playoff push. But I didn't think about it too much on a personal level."
