There is something about the 1970's wavy word logo and turquoise blue that just won't let go of people. Joel DuChesne, for example. He took the time recently to design a very workable third 'kit' option for Sounders FC that would honor the club's NASL brothers of the past.
Joel took it a step further by also starting an online petition to measure fan interest. Both Joel's design and fan interest will be relayed to Sounders FC in the near future.
What do you think of the mix of old-school Sounders home kits and the current Adidas MLS jersey style?
"With the suggestion of many Seattle Sounders FC Fans, I created a white retro kit to serve as a "third" option. This design is intended to pay respects to the many Sounders players, coaches, owners, and others who started professional soccer in Seattle in 1974. Please sign the petition if you would like to see our ownership come through with a kit such as this. Thanks!" ---Joel

The 1980 Seattle Sounders home kit was all-white with green and blue 'piping' and a v-neck collar with flaps. This artwork is by Janis Whitcomb, of Sounders star Bruce Rioch. You can see her entire 1980 Sounders art gallery in the GOALSeattle.com Museum.

I want a collar on my jersey, much classier look.
R we going to bring back the short shorts?
I hope so. It wouldn't hurt if those guys showed a little more thigh.
Veiwing from the outside with no blind sentimentality filter, that old uni is the most butt ugly thing I've ever seen. The new ones are so beyond cool. Leave the job to the marketers of the New Sounders. They are oviously doing things right. The new unies are striking looking. Don't operate on emotion and sentimentalty. It leads to bad taste.
Revz, that is one of the more classic NASL kits, and certainly one of the most classy and reserved. Hardly 'ugly.' But then, I grew up in the days of the Colorado Caribous and their infamous 'fringe' jerseys...
David, I agree. The old kits were hardly ugly. I've always preferred simplicity over complex styles. I know a lot of people love our new kits, but I know a lot that think they look too "spacey" or too much like a surfing suit. The great thing about doing a "semi-retro" kit, is it allows fans a choice (and it WILL make the organization money).
I think WE should keep the jerseys we hav now.
I like the retro kits. I'd also like it in a light blue...but Joel and I have already talked about that.
No thanks, the collar is horrible!
This is an option for a third kit, not a replacement of the coolio ones we have right now, btw. :)
If we're proposing the short-shorts that were also part of the kit, I'm all for it. Otherwise the retro style of the jersey will not be compatible with the baggy long "shorts" of today.
These look great. A real tribute. And a money maker in the team shop. Anyone who remembers the days at Memorial or the Dome will love them. Nice job. Thank God we weren't the Caribou or the Chicago Sting! Or Tampa Bay's socks.
Stamp the new sounders fc logo on there in exchange for the old and I'm sold. The white color with the blue and green trimm is sweet. A white colored jersey is superior to the rave green and blue the sounders now wear. the new silver bra banding addition around the chest is horrible. I like the addition if the shale jersey color but the banding has got too go!!!! I bet in the next couple years we'll see a white sounders game jersey.
