Kitsap Pumas-3 Spokane Spiders-0: The Pumas nearly won another 4-nil away contest with a late outburst. Only a saved penalty kick stopped the Kitsap crew from repeating their opening match scoreline, a 4-nil win at Yakima. The Spiders held Kitsap off the scoreboard until the 68th minute. Victoria Highlanders-3 Vancouver Whitecaps Residency-2: Despite not being able to use four players whose paperwork had yet to clear, the Highlanders won their opener before 1,500 fans. Forward Patrick Gawrys scored two goals to give Victoria a 3:1 lead, and they held on. See a full match report here.
The Yakima Reds played the Sounders FC roster reserves on Sunday at Starfire Sports Complex in Tukwila and battled well in a 2:1 loss.

Around the NW
Tacoma Tide FC open their season May 15 at Kitsap. It is the first leg in the Narrows Bridge Bell derby cup, which is currently held by the Bremerton club. It is the home opener for the Pumas and a large crowd is expected at Bremerton Memorial Stadium. The Tide will officially announce Chris Sanders as a forward signing this week. Watch for an interview with Sanders later this week on Seattle Soccer Examiner.
Washington Crossfire open this week with a Saturday afternoon match in Portland against the Timbers U23's at 2:30 PM.
