MLS will build playground 'in a day' at Van Asselt Elementary on S. Beacon Hill

Note: Major League Soccer is descending on Seattle next week during the build up to MLS Cup 2009 at Qwest Field on Sunday, November 22 at 5:30PM. My email box is getting a lot of action in regards to press releases such as the ones below. I am happy to share this information and hope that the Van Asselt kids enjoy their new playground! (The school moved this year from a historic 100-year old building to this new one.) Bottom of page, see a Thursday November 19 event for SeattleScores.org.

MLS players will be working alongside Home Depot associates, local volunteers and KaBOOM! organizers to build a brand new playground at Van Asselt Elementary in just one day - Thursday, Nov. 19.

This build is part of a larger program Home Depot and MLS have created. Over the past three years, the organizations have built nearly 20 playspaces in deserving communities across the country and plans are in the works to build five more next season. MLS commissioner Don Garber will be on hand and available to speak about the program and all the good works taking place in Seattle.

WHAT:
MLS stars will join forces with The Home Depot associates, organizers from KaBOOM!, the Seattle Public School system and local volunteers to build an entire playground at Van Asselt Elementary School. The MLS players and volunteers will construct the new playground in just one day.

The playground build is part of a partnership between The Home Depot, MLS W.O.R.K.S., Major League Soccer’s community outreach initiative, and KaBOOM! designed to build a playspace as part of MLS Cup festivities. The new playground will create a great place to play for the more than 600 children who attend Van Asselt Elementary School.

This build is part of The Home Depot’s ongoing commitment to give back to the communities its stores serve. The project is funded through a grant from The Home Depot along with a contribution from Seattle Public Schools.
