The first 2010 practice for the Kitsap Pumas is in the books after a two and a half hour workout at Gordon Fields in Silverdale on March 17th. Peter Fewing was on hand to lead his first official session as head coach. The Seattle resident might well look for some kind of group rate when he takes the boat to Bremerton this spring and summer. Three of his former players at Seattle University, Jason Cascio, Alex Chursky and John Fishbaugher are with the Pumas, too. So are a group of players who are still linked to the 2010 Seattle Sounders FC: Lamar Neagle, Jamel Wallace, Tye Perdido and Darby Carillo. The Seattle links continue with longtime Seattle Wolves forward Thiago Silva, and former Sounders trialist Nik Besagno (among others).
The 2010 Sounders FC draft choices and trialists will play for the Pumas and also be available for Sounders FC 'reserve' matches. In the video below I spoke with Jamel Wallace and Lamar Neagle (of Federal Way) about joining Kitsap. Just a few weeks ago both were in La Manga Spain with the Sounders.

Coming up in my next Pumas' article I will have a four-minute video chat with head coach Pete Fewing. Check out my Kitsap Pumas practice gallery below. Also, the club sent out the following press release today:
Pumas press release
Bremerton, Wash. - The Kitsap Soccer Club today announced that it has cut its working roster to 26 players. The team begins formal training Wednesday. Training Camp begins next week.
Players still currently on the Pumas’ roster either as a prospect or currently holding a contract are as follows:
Goalkeepers: Dustyn Brim, Darby Carillo, Garrett Staples
Defenders: Mark Lee, Stephen Mohn, Taylor Hyde, Daniel Scott, Jamelle Wallace, Lamar Nagle, Jason Cascio,
Midfielders: Matt Friesen, Nik Besagno, John Fishbauger, David Gray, Cameron Hepple, Alex Megson, Greg Miley, Thiago Silva, Kellen Wantulok
Forwards: Tony Kerr, Stephen Phillips, Todd Wallenius, Tye Perdido, Alex Chursky, Zack Sampson, Eli Gordley, Spencer Schomaker

“We’ve spent twelve solid on-field hours looking at players and even more than that evaluating off the field,” said Pumas head coach Peter Fewing. “I’m really impressed as the level of play improved each week with the new players coming in. The hard part has been working within the league structure and being limited to only eight over-23-aged players. That single rule made our selection process a real challenge - especially for the returning players from last year”
“Because the level was so high,” he continued, “it made our job even tougher – especially for these final cuts. We anticipate a bit more trimming but that will occur during camp and the friendlies.”
The Pumas pre-season kicks off Saturday, April 3 at 6 p.m. when the USL D1 Portland Timbers invade Bremerton Memorial Stadium. Tickets are available at www.brownpapertickets.com or at the gate on game day. 2010 Season Ticket holders are admitted to pre-season matches as part of their existing package.

love pic #9 of the slideshow "Brim and mud" - GET'N DIRTY!
You KNOW us Kitsappers don't shy away from a little mud for the cause. Great stuff. ALLEZ PUMAS!
A team SEATTLE can be proud of! Go PUMAS!
Well East loves West, you are more than welcome to hope a boat over to support the Pumas...however, I am pretty sure Kitsappers will be the prouder ones. :)
the video is private....
I enjoyed playing summer soccer because I got to play with the boys (co-ed teams), but fall soccer was fun because of the rain and the MUD!
Now how did I do that? Sorry...the video is now PUBLIC.
Thanks for the video. Good luck to Lamar and Jamel. They seem like good guys.
well, if the MLS strike does happen, then the PUMAS will be the best game around! And will be able to score a few goals a game.
This is great news for the Westsound. Too bad they don't have any feeder clubs over there. Someone better get crackin'.
The Pumas do have an academy team, and they are expanding their age levels this year. Also, they are establishing a relationship with WestSound FC and the KYSA. James Ritchie, Pumas youth director, is also head coach at South Kitsap High School and Olympic College, and these connections with local players can only help.
There are 300 players at Westsound. That's not much of a base. There is no relationship between the clubs. No, they have their work cut out for them.
I think the Pumas know that, pumasacademy?. But, you've got to start sometime/somewhere, and Bremerton wasn't built in a day. ;)
Got something to say?
