Clarence Seedorf
Glenn Davis, host of The Soccer Hour radio show in Houston, claims that there have been talks of Clarence Seedorf signing with the Philadelphia Union. The Dutch-international currently plays for AC Milan.
Philadelphia Union CEO Nick Sakiewicz was asked about Clarence Seedorf on Glenn Davis’s show. Sakiewicz’s response was an odd one. He seemed to dismiss and acknowledge the rumor, all at the same time. He first stated that there is no truth to the rumor that Seedorf will be signed by the Union. But he then admitted that he did speak with Seedorf in Milan, and that Seedorf is interested in playing in MLS.
The fact that Sakiewicz denies the rumor means relatively nothing. We see this in professional sports all the time. Management will never leak any information before it is officially announced. And they will deny rumors, even if they are true, due to confidentiality. But the fact that Sakiewicz revealed that Seedorf is interested in MLS, makes this a legitimate rumor.
The 33-year old Dutchman has had an incredibly successful career, and would instantly become the best player in Major League Soccer. Seedorf holds the honor of being the only player to win the UEFA Champions League with three different teams (Ajax, Real Madrid, AC Milan). An attacking midfielder, he is an absolute magician with the ball. It is nearly impossible to take the ball off of him. Seedorf also has a laser of a shot. With him as your central midfielder, the Union would be off to a fantastic start as an expansion team.

Note: In the same interview, Sakiewicz confirmed that the 2,000-seat supporters section in the Chester stadium has been sold-out…Goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann has been released by Reading, and could be looked at by Philly.

Umm...automatically the best player in MLS? It's a different game over here, Beckham has failed miserably, yet can be amazing in Italy. The style of MLS best suits crafy, speedy players like Landon Donovan and Guillermo Barros Schelloto or physical players like Kenny Cooper.
Just because Seedorf succeeded in Europe doesn't mean it will automatically transfer here in the most competitive league, where any team can beat anyone on any given Saturday.
Beckham did not "fail miserably", but the Galaxy certainly did. Beckham was easily one of the best and most impactful players this league has ever seen...sadly, he had no one to work with besides Landon Donovan.
to drock- seedorf has played in the toughest leagues with the greatest skill. just because every mls team can beat eachother on any given day doesnt mean that seedorf wont clearly make an impact for whatever he team he may join. if your saying the mls best suits speedy players and physical ones, seedorf is known for being physical and very difficult to body-off the ball. as for your comment on beckham failing miserably, that is complete poppycock. he may not be the player he used to be but he still is ten times the distributing player than half the players in mls are.
