Bobby Convey for Reading FC
Bobby Convey to Philadelphia rumors are heating up. All signs point to this deal happening by 2010.
The first sign is that Convey has made it clear that he wants to play in Philadelphia. In a 2007 interview with SonsofBen.com, Convey stated, “There is no question I would love to be on the Philadelphia team when they have one…There would be nothing better then to play for my hometown team…and have my whole family for the first time be able to come watch me play without having to travel around the world. That would be a dream come true…”. Convey’s passion for Philadelphia is apparent, and there is no doubt that he would carry that passion on to the field.
Although the Philadelphia Union have not come out publicly and said that they want to sign Convey, it would be hard to believe that they would not pursue the Philadelphia-native. On the field, Convey is a speedy attacking winger that would fit perfectly into Union CEO Nick Sakiewicz’s desire to play an attacking brand of soccer. And off the field? What better way to market your new expansion team than with a local star who played in the English Premier League? It’s a perfect fit.
Steven Goff of the Washington Post recently reported that the struggling San Jose Earthquakes are looking to trade Convey. If the Quakes just hold on until the end of the season, Philadelphia would gladly work out a deal with them. The fact that Convey’s current team is the worst in MLS, makes you want to believe that the transaction to the Union would go down pretty smoothly. You get the feeling that Convey can’t wait to get out of San Jose.
Convey has struggled with injuries in the past, and he has seemingly been forgotten by U.S national team coach Bob Bradley. But when Convey is healthy and on form, nobody doubts his talent. He played a key role in Reading’s promotion to the English Premier League, which is considered one of the great accomplishments by an American soccer player in Europe. Although he has struggled for San Jose this season, there is no reason to believe that he can’t turn it around in Philadelphia.

Bobby needs to be on this team... hes the best player to ever come out of the city.... anyone who says otherwise is a moron and does not know philly soccer
He's super little player . left winger at my team READING FC . He was out standing crossing in our promotion season second to none. We should not let he go we missed he play . But he was always a little homesick for the STATES
For the record, pretty much all the professional players interviewed by the Sons of Ben said in one way or another that they'd love to play for the Philadelphia MLS team. Who wouldn't want to play for their hometown in front of family, friends, and in Convey's case a SoB founder who also happened to stuff Bobby on a PK back in the day.
