Megan Ward (Kate) was kind enough to spend a few moments with examiner recently. Ward is incredible – she’s not only beautiful - she’s talented, funny, and interesting. Take a look at Part 1 of our interview.
Examiner: Talk a little about your childhood – you grew up in Hawaii?
Megan Ward: Yep. Sure did bradah. I even got strangled on my first day of kindergarten. We were definitely mainlander haoles but eventually we learned to fit in. It’s a state rich in culture and beauty but also an island that can sometimes feel isolating.
E: Both of your parents were actors and acting teachers? Did you feel pressured to follow in their footsteps?
MW: I didn’t feel pressured, but it was convenient. I spent my childhood in the wings waiting for my little part in my parent’s productions. I was sent on auditions at a young age and allowed to miss school for jobs. It was very natural to be in audition situations for me and I liked winning roles. I knew it made them happy when I succeeded and who doesn’t want to please their parents?
E: I read you started on commercials when you were nine – do you remember much about what commercials you shot? Do you remember the first one?
MW: I did lots of brochures for hotels and travel advertisements with my parents having grown up in Hawaii. My first commercial was for a local store called Gem (think Kmart), for a Christmas promotion. Pretty sure it involved Santa and my hair in curlers.
E: Can you talk a little bit about the television show you hosted in Japan?
MW: I saw the whole country modeling and even spoke Japanese in a short film made to demonstrate the brand new breakthrough technology: HIGH DEFINITION! Seriously, they followed me around with a UPS-sized truck housing the equipment necessary! The television show I worked on was called ‘Science Q.’ Every week we discussed and researched the science behind aspects of modern life we take for granted. I would help with demonstrations and participate in conversations. It was a primetime show that was actually very popular. Think ‘Discovery Channel/Myth Busters.’
E: I know you’ve done a lot on primetime television. But I’m curious if there’s anything that stands out about the episode of ‘Friends’ you did?
MW: It’s thrilling to work on a hit show. Everyone knew what they were doing and catering was fantastic.
E: I read your latest blog entry and I love this – you wrote, ‘Life is too short to let fear compromise the possibilities. Sometimes all we have to do is find the mute button.’ You also talked about the understanding that you can’t ‘control’ everything. Do you find writing the blog therapeutic?
MW: Yes, the narcissist in me likes to write the blog, but it drives the perfectionist in me crazy. Sometimes I have a lot to say and sometimes I just want to hide under my own little rock. What has surprised me is how my personal struggles, epiphanies and revelations written down are not only therapeutic for me, but others as well. Great, now the Catholic in me feels guilty for not updating in a while.
E: Have you written anything in the past, aside from the blog?
MW: No, I haven’t, but it’s on my Bucket List.
E: You mentioned Yoga – do you recommend it for people who have stress in their lives?
MW: The literal definition of Yoga is the balance between effort and surrender. It’s not just good exercise, but it’s also emotionally therapeutic. Anyone and everyone can do yoga. You just need to find the style that suits you. Yoga works on several levels and is all about honoring who you are and where you are. Pretty good therapy if you ask me and I don’t practice nearly enough.
E: Do you have any advice for people who are struggling with stress, employment, and similar ‘life’ issues?
MW: Remember to breathe. Success is based on perspective. It’s subjective and biased. Find ways to recognize your own worth and others will see it too.

thanks laurie! look forward to part 2. :)
Thank you. Pt. 1 was terrific. Can't wait for pt. 2. Thanks too to Megan for taking the time. No one gives a better interview!
Megan Ward is the best, and need be back on contract on Gh now!!!!
Great interview! Ohh I can't wait for part 2.
Always love reading the insights of Megan Ward. Thanks for the interview. Looking forward to part 2.
TPTB at Gh have made a "HUGE" mistake putting Megan on the back burner, she and Maurice Benard made GH really fun to watch, the crime is they bring in and inferior actress and give her Megan"s S/L and she could not do it. The current S/l has lost so many viewers BUT yet they now bring back Vanessa Marcell to re-capture what was gone a long time ago, remember Sarah Brown, did not work for a two time emmy winner, GH need's to re-unite Megan & Maurice and quit the ignorant S/L they are shoving down our throats. Megan IS AND ACTRESS of great depth and she also is a fine person who care's about us her fans.
I love Megan Ward. So talented, and she brings to life a fantastic character. It's depressing and frustrating that GH has completely sidelined the actress and the character.
So glad you all enjoyed this one - Megan is lovely in every sense of the word :)
thanks for the interview :) it's too bad gh won't use megan more but it doesn't take away from the terrific work she did when she was on a lot or the possibility that we will see her more again in the future. hoping that will happen, and until then love to read interviews like this one. can't wait for the 2nd part :)
Thank you so much for this interview. It is always a treat to read a Megan Ward interview! Megan always inspires us with her wisdom and insight. She is sorely missed on GH and needs to be placed back on contract now!
Thank you, Megan, for once again taking the time out of your busy schedule to connect with us.
Great job.
Laurie, thanks for this unexpected treat. Looking forward to part 2. Megan always gives the best interviews.
Add me to the list of the numerous readers who appreciated this interview and look forward to seeing Megan Ward's performances. GH has been incredibly idiotic not to recognize the popularity of Ms. Ward and how the viewers love her portrayal as Kate and miss the love story of her character with Sonny as well as stories involving Crimson. Sonny and Kate were ended prematurely and only GH is the loser with a ratings drop that began at the same time that they went another direction in story. Since then a majority of the GH audience has not enjoyed the Sonny storyline! Maybe one day GH will see the light. Until then I look forward to seeing Ms. Ward in whatever roles and performances lie ahead. Can't wait to read part 2!!!
Love that girl! And what a gorgeous picture. Thanks for chatting with Megan!
Great interview. I apparently the cheese that stands alone in my thinking that it was a good move to end the Sonny/Kate romance. It really didn't work in my mind- on the other hand I LOVE matching her character with the unexpected Coleman. It gives Kate's character a new spin and Megan does a great job with it.
I loved getting to know the actor behind the character- thanks for a great introduction!
Laurie, thanks for this unexpected treat. Looking forward to part 2. Megan always gives the best interviews.
I apologize for the double post. I reloaded the page and it posted a second time.
Another great interview from Megan, love to read her opinions on any subject. Thanks for the interview.
Thanks for Great interview with one and only Megan Ward! She is some kind of wonderful and her fans love her. Can't wait to read second part!Gh needs to get back on track with Megan and use her great talent!
Thanks for the interview. Megan is awesome isn't she ;) Many of us were pleasantly surprised to find a genuine role model in the person behind Kate Howard.
Terrific interview, refreshing new questions and answers. Looking forward to part 2!
Thanks Laurie for doing an interview with Megan and I love her picture. She is a wonderful person and a very talented actor who deserves great roles. GH needs to come to their senses and give Megan serious stories and to challenge her character, also to bring back the charm and class and strong personality of a woman on the show that they lack of. I really miss the real KATE HOWARD. I miss seeing Megan and Maurice together.
Thanks for doing an interview with the talented Megan Ward!
Kates shooting at the Sonny and Kate wedding and the subsequent break up of Sonny and Kate were major turning points not only in many of the stories being told on the canvas, but in the ratings that have floundered ever since. It is obvious that the Kate character, and the actress who plays her, has definitely made her mark when the lead character Sonny and the show have not recovered since she was placed on the backburner.
I truly hope TPTB at GH finally realize what a gem they have in Ms. Ward and bring her/Kate to the forefront not only with Sonny, but Crimson and other lead stories where she belongs.
Got something to say?
