Hopefully you read Part One of my exclusive interview with ‘General Hospital’s’ lovely and talented Brianna Brown (Dr. Lisa Niles).
Take a look below at the second half of our interview – this time around we delve into Brown’s work on ‘General Hospital.’
Examiner: Did you watch ‘General Hospital’ before you were cast?
Brianna Brown: I had watched some ‘General Hospital’ beforehand but when I was young I was forbidden to watch soaps!
E: Were you uneasy being a recast?
BB: I wasn’t actually. Bob Guza ('GH' head writer) and Jill Farren Phelps ('GH' executive producer) made the transition very easy by being supportive of me taking the role and running with it (with their guidance of course!). Plus it was a newer character, which made it much easier for me.
E: Was there someone at ‘General Hospital’ who helped you ease into daytime? A co-worker who reached out to you?
BB: Lisa (LoCicero, Olivia) and Jason (Thompson, Patrick) were so wonderful. They both met with me before I started shooting and helped me ease into the well-oiled machine of daytime television.
E: How is it working with Scott Reeves (Steve) – I’ve heard really great things about him.
BB: I just adore Scott. He’s such a hard worker, such a wonderful family man and very collaborative. He’s such a great actor to work with.
E: Talk a bit about working with two of my favorite actors - Blake Gibbons (Coleman) and Bergen Williams (Alice) during ‘Sonny’s’ (Maurice Benard) trial. You were with two very funny, very terrific actors.
BB: Blake and Bergen are such sweethearts. It was a lot of fun sitting in the jury box with them everyday. Bergen is such a brilliant women and Blake just makes me laugh!
E: Lisa is obviously a fictional character you play. Is there anything about her you admire or relate to?
BB: I admire Lisa’s tenacity and focus. I admire her ability to work hard and play hard. I admire her being at the top of her field. And I admire that she’s comfortable with who she is. I feel like I can relate to most of those qualities.
E: How has the fan reception been so far? Is it frustrating that people sometimes confuse you with the character you play?
BB: I love ‘GH’ fans and I’m always flattered when fans tell me that they dislike Lisa, but really think I’m doing a great job playing her.
E: What do you love most about working on ‘General Hospital?’
BB: I love how focused you have to be. It’s a lot of material that you have to churn out day to day and you have little time in between set-ups to prep for the next scene. You have to be focused and on your game.
Thanks to Brianna Brown for taking the time to talk with me. You can watch Brown on ‘General Hospital’ weekdays at 3pm on ABC/WXYZ Channel 7 in the Detroit area.
