Mammoth Mountain received one to two inches of snow overnight.
Southern California’s local resorts are taking advantage of a large cold front that moved into the area yesterday. Snowmaking activity is on the rise at Bear Mountain, Mountain High, and Mammoth Mountain as the resorts look to the weather to determine opening dates.
Bear Mountain in Big Bear, California began making snow last night, Tuesday, October 27. If cold weather prevails, the freestyle haven plans to focus snowmaking efforts on Central Park run and hopes to open Chair 5 as soon as possible.
Bear Mountain, sister resort Snow Summit, and neighboring resort Mountain High usually open mid- to late-November. All three resorts are heavily invested in snowmaking and can open top-to-bottom in just a few days with the right weather conditions.
Mountain High in Wrightwood, California also began snowmaking operations top-to-bottom at the West resort. Snowmaking guns covered runs that included Upper Chisolm, Lower Chisolm, Cruiser, and Easy Street.
Mammoth Mountain in Mammoth Lakes, California enjoyed one to two inches of light, dry snow overnight, which added to their existing six-inch base. Snowmaking operations are also underway at Mammoth, which has a scheduled opening day of November 12, 2009. Mammoth has a tradition of opening early when weather and conditions permit.
