Whether you’re going to First Night in uptown Charlotte, or staying home with friends and family, there’s a free app for your Android phone to help you celebrate:
Times Square Official Ball App
With this app, you can watch the live show in New York, including the ball drop. You don’t have to be tied to a TV to cheer the last ten seconds of the countdown.
New Year’s Buzzer
This little app will not only countdown the end of the year, but will also send a Happy New Year’s message to anyone or everyone in your contact list (at your discretion). It will also allow you to enter and track your New Year’s resolution straight through to 2012.
New Year Greetings
If you’ve always wanted to be that person that sends just the right thoughts to someone else at the turn of the New Year, this app will help. With many canned messages, you can find the right one and send it off via text message, email, Facebook, or Twitter.
New Year’s Strobe
This app will flicker your camera flash at an adjustable rate to create a strobe effect. You can be the life of the party with your portable strobe light, but watch your battery.
Google Maps
Your GPS enabled phone using Google maps can help you find the nearest bus stop or Lynx station and will even pull up schedule information to get you to and from your party safely.
Whatever your plans on New Year’s Eve, stay safe and have fun with a little help from your favorite cell phone.
