Winter Restaurant Week to benefit Hearts for Hounds

More than 60 restaurants throughout the Miami Valley have signed up to offer special three-course meals as part of Winter Restaurant Week, which returns for an eight-day engagement starting Sunday, January 22, 2012 and extending through Sunday, January 29, 2012.

Participating restaurants charge a set fee for specific three-course meals: $20.12, $25.12 or $30.12. The restaurants then donate $1 to charity for each Restaurant Week meal they sell. This winter, the charities selected by the restaurant association to benefit are United Rehabilitation Services of Greater Dayton (providing services to individuals with disabilities) and Hearts for Hounds, Dayton-area volunteers working in conjunction with the Humane Society of Greater Dayton to improve the quality of life for dogs living outdoors in Montgomery County.

Participating restaurants include Taste in Trotwood, The Winds café in Yellow Springs, De’Lish in downtown Dayton, Louisiana Grill in Washington Township; Christopher’s, Neil’s Heritage House and l’Auberge (all in Kettering), The Bridge in Sidney and the Troy Country Club, open to the public for dinner for the week.

You can see the rather extensive list of participating restaurants, view their menus and find out which of the three price tiers they have chosen, here.

As an example, Christopher’s Restaurant is offering this special menu Monday January 23rd through Saturday, January 28th for $20.12:

Appetizer
Hot blended cheese dip served with hand-made breadsticks and fruit garnish

Soup
Creamy white asparagus bisque swirled with garlic oil and served with prosciutto slivers (optional).

Entrees

A French bone-in center cut pork loin chop, grilled with a plum glaze and served with pureed parsnips and a mixed vegetable latke

Vegetarian Entree
Roasted eggplant medallions piled up with tomato confit over mixed vegetable latkes and drizzled with balsamic reduction and shaved parmesan cheese

Dessert
Bergamot milk chocolate Mousse Cake: Earl Grey tea-infused mousse, served on a milk chocolate sponge with chocolate sauce and fresh raspberries

A few things to keep in mind:

  • Reservations are strongly recommended; call to check on availability and hours.
  • Some restaurants are closed on Sundays and/or Mondays; then again, some restaurants normally closed on these days will be open for Restaurant Week. Again, it is a good idea to call ahead.
  • Tax, tip and beverages are not included in the special price

So - go to dinner. Treat yourself and help out worthy local causes at the same time.
