Opie & Dixie Organic Gentle Puppy Shampoo - it's not just for pets!

Gentle people - I mean Puppy - Shampoo

OK, we already know that Opie & Dixie is an amazing company, with amazing ethics and amazing products. I’ve already reviewed the Healing Paw Balm; now for the Organic Gentle Puppy Shampoo.

I have no puppies at my house. I do have (among other things) rabbits, one of which is disabled and needs a personal bath on a daily basis. Rabbits have skin that is like tissue paper. Everything irritates it, and you don’t want to be pulling on any...um…stuff that needs removing, as you can tear the skin. Their poop is like Quik-Crete and about as easily dissolvable. The problem is finding something gentle enough for their skin that will still help dissolve the poops. Baby shampoo was about the best product I had found; most of the pet shampoos were either not all that gentle or had smells that I found objectionable, or contained chemicals that were unpronounceable (the baby shampoo listed many of these scary chemicals as well).

Opie & Dixie Organic Gentle Puppy Shampoo has ingredients which are all certified as organic; the essential oils are diluted so as to be suitable for a rabbit (or puppy’s) tender skin, and the herbal fragrance is wonderful.

The shampoo also does an excellent job of cleaning; I base this opinion on the color of Cookie’s fur after washing with Opie & Dixie compared to washing with baby shampoo. Cookie’s fur is definitely whiter after using Opie & Dixie shampoo (I think this is due to superior cleaning ability). I have even given Cookie a partial bath with baby shampoo and THEN used Opie & Dixie and her fur will be noticeably whiter after washing with the Opie & Dixie shampoo. Did I mention that the shampoo fragrance is wonderful? It’s a welcome relief after washing substances off of the bunnies that have non-wonderful fragrances.

Look at these amazing ingredients:
Purified Rain Water, Certified Organic Herbal Blend of Organic Lavender, Organic Chamomile, Organic Calendula flowers, Organic Rosehips, Organic Burdock, Organic Safflower Oil, Grape Seed extract, Organic Rosemary, Biodynamic Avocado Oil, Biodynamic Macadamia Oil, Organic Lotus Bean gum, Australian Bush extracts of Kakadu Plum; Decyl Glycoside (a plant-derived, biodegradable surfactant), Vitamin Coco Glucoside (derived from coconut oil and fruit sugar), Oatmeal Protein, Vitamin Coconut Oil, Comfrey Extract, Yarrow Extract, Organic Chamomile Extract, Hops Extract, Organic Fennel Oil, Organic Lavender Oil, Organic Tea Tree Oil, Organic Almond Oil, Organic Grapefruit Extract, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Canadian wild crafted red clover.

There are links on the website that will tell you about each and every ingredient and what its purpose in the shampoo is. For example, “Kakadu Plum is an Australian wild-harvested fruit and is the highest known fruit source of Vitamin C in the world. The highest form of antioxidant found in nature, it is used worldwide to refresh and revive the skin”.

Now here’s the best part: this shampoo was so aromatic that I had to use it on myself. While I didn’t think my hair would turn blue or anything (not that that is a bad thing, for those of my readers who have blue hair), I never dreamed it would turn out this unbeleivably well. I have lots of hair, but it is pin straight and fine…which means that unless I blow dry it and use some freeze-spray – and some back-combing - on it, it just lays flat and limp against my head, like the model’s hair in this video. In fact, I AM the model in this video. Yeah, yeah that’s it – I’m the model. Just look at all the stuff she – I mean I – had to go through to get a little volume.

After I washed my hair with the Opie & Dixie puppy shampoo however, my hair is almost as fluffy as Cookie's and has so much body it's unreal - and I didn't have to blow dry it or use any other hair products. Hey, I’m old enough to have used lots and lots of different shampoos in my life, and none of them did this for my hair. I randomly fluff my hair during the day just to feel how nice and fluffy it IS (and of course it is soft and shiny, too). My co-workers think I have suddenly become quite vain.

And then there’s that wonderful lavender smell, while washing my hair! I even made my co-worker Kawana smell my hair to see if it still smelled like lavender (it doesn’t, but that makes sense – you wash a dog and make him smell like lavender, he is going to roll in the first nasty thing he can find to get rid of that unnatural smell. Dogs don’t like the smell of lavender as much as I do).

So. Go to the website and order this stuff. Pet ownership optional.

With such terrific ingredients, can't think why I wouldn't try it. I'm a horse person and been using "Mane and Tail" horse shampoo for years -- and still have all my hair. Thanks for the info!
