Macy's Petacular

Tito, the pomeranian is this year's winner of Macy's Petacular NYC

A pig wearing Chanel, a Chihuahua as a baby, a guinea pig in fashions and a cat as a squirrel are just a few of the animals that participated at the 2010 Macy’s Petacular in New York City. This is an anticipated event by pet owners and not even the rain could stop them from walking the runway in their best Easter Outfits.

Whimsical designs like the turquoise and lavender tuxedo that Giorgio, a boy Maltese owned by Aunt Christine Pelicano was wearing, created by Roberto Negrin were absolutely one of my favorites. Top hat and all, you could categorize as a “Mad Hatter” from Alice in Wonderland story.

Then there were Fifi-Gigi and Meteor wearing fantastically well knitted bunny ears made by their owner, Jennifer –Jo.Besides looking adorable, the pieces are perfect to wear in a “Playboy Puppy Mansion” pawty theme.

Not every costume was hand made by their owners or couture by known pet designers. Karen Biehl, mommy to Eli the Chihuahua collected a series of baby items to have him perfectly dress to what he represents best, a baby. After all, majority of us consider them our babies and Eli represented that very well.

Yours truly brought Mojito in a store bought chicken costume that stole everyone’s heart and took him to top 5 finalist of the event.

The winner this year is a Pomeranian that posed as a sunflower sitting on his own entourage decorated with flowers, butterflies and Easter eggs.

Unfortunately, last year’s winner arrived late and could not do the runway to showcase the incredibly creative stage his dad Anthony had created. However, Bandit still captured people’s attention as he posed In Elton John’s allegoric costume including the big sunglasses with his name. This is a costume that predict would have win if arrive in time.

Next week is NYC Easter parade. Have the feeling, if weather permits, there will be again many pets strolling down 5th avenue along their owners in big hats. Certainly hope to be one of them.

Are you dressing up your pet for Easter too?
