The Animal Medical Center's PAW Day

Guests attend Animal Medical Center's PAW day

Humans and their furry friends headed to Carl Schurz park bright and early this morning to participate in the Animal Medical Center's PAW day - pet and wellness fun fair.  The fair featured "ask the vet" information stations with a wide variety of veterinary specialists.

The sun was shining brightly, so our first stop was the dermatologist on call.  Should fido wear sunscreen?  The answer was a resounding yes.  BullFrog sunscreen (made for humans) can be applied to doggies.  Their gel version was the recommended formula for pups.

Next on our list of questions pertained to doggy dental hygiene.  Do dogs really need professional dental care?  Most humans brush and floss daily and still need multiple dental cleanings throughout the year.  The same holds true for fido, and an annual cleaning is recommended.  Make sure the veterinary practice has proper dental equipment such as a dental x-ray machine.

We chatted briefly with BikeYourDogNYC.  I told him that I didn't think my dogs would be good candidates for his service -- the doggies are attached to a cool device and run alongside the bike.  He said he could definitely accommodate my smaller dogs.  I actually need more exercise than my dogs, so maybe I should start to run alongside his bike.

We visited with the opthalmology vet technician.  We asked her how we would know if fido was having vision problems.  She said the dog may start to run into things, have trouble climbing stairs, or show a new fear in performing daily routines.  Any of those actions could be caused by vision problems or possibly neurological issues.

The health fair had many more stations including a children's area with Clifford the Big Red Dog, a jewelry making station, and information about pet safety.   We worked up a big appetite at the event and headed to Fetch Bar and Grill for brunch.  Yes, we did read the fair's obesity and nutrition information before we ordered.

The Animal Medical Center is located at 510 East 62nd Street in New York City.  They offer a wide range of specialized veterinary services and state-of-the-art health care programs designed specifically for dogs, cats and exotic pets, as well as counseling services for pet owners.

    Sorry Ada,

A Chihuahua isn't the right fit for the exercise I am giving to dogs, although some smaller breeds do make sense. Thanks for stopping by my booth. I hope you and Chris enjoy the beautiful weather. We had a great time at this years AMC event.
