Rescuing rover in New York City with Adoptapalooza

Maria Sansone, host of Maria's Pet Project

Adoption vans lined the north side of Washington Square Park yesterday afternoon for the first New York City Adoptapalooza festival, where dogs and cats put their best paws forward looking for their forever homes.  Add a prince, a socialite, gorgeous spring weather, and lots of animal fans to make it a fun-filled day for everyone!

Volunteers from Sean Casey Animal Rescue, Animal Care & Control, the Picasso Veterinary Fund, and North Shore Animal League America walked adoptable pups, answered questions from prospective pet parents, and gave tours of the vans -- the goal was to find loving homes for over 100 animals.  Prince Lorenzo Borghese, founder of Royal Treatment grooming products and producer of America's Next Top Dog, hosted the adoptable dog trot.

Manhattan socialite and star of CW11's High Society, Tinsley Mortimer, joined the party and hosted the doggie costume contest along with judge Maria Sansone, of "Maria's Pet Project" on LX New York.  A "celebrity dog," who just happened to have a Roberto Negrin custom creation in his bag won that battle.  His mom, Karen Biehl, added her own finishing touches to make the King really pop!  Of course the true winners were the adopted pups like Sparky, the Chihuahua and his new parents Doug and Dottie.  Sparky was one of the first ten dogs adopted at the event.  Give that dog a bone!

The day included training tips from Andrea Arden Dog Training, grooming advice from Ali McLennan, professional photos from Petographs, walking tips from Walk this Way Canine Behavior Therapy, fashion tips from Shallon Lester and Sarah "Klo" McLynn from MTV’s New Summer Show “Downtown Girls” and many more services to help new and prospective pet parents.  Raffle prize winners were announced throughout the day.  Adopted animals and their new parents walked the stage to the sounds of a cheering crowd.

If you missed this wonderful event, check the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals web site for a shelter or rescue group in your area.  Stop "dogling" and adopt a little New Yorker today!
