Bideawee's Monday Night Gala for the love of pets

Bideawee's President and CEO Nancy Taylor with Beth Stern

A doggy paradise was nestled under the Queensboro Bridge earlier this week.  Green grass paths lined with ornate water bowls brought furry friends and their human companions to the Bideawee Monday Night Gala in Guastavino's on the far East Side of Manhattan.  This fairy tale evening celebrated "Flying Chihuahuas" finding their forever homes, and special needs dog, Milo, getting the care he needs to help him find a new family.  It also brought people together to share ideas and to raise funds to support all of Bideawee's worthwhile programs.

Gala guests and supporters would make the perfect dream team for any animal in need.  Andrea Arden could train the dog.  Montel Williams would supply comfortable DogPedic beds.  Beth Stern would read from her new book, "Oh My Dog."  Top Chef, Danny Gagnon, would serve the best food. Jeff Levy would provide vet services.  Dr. Ruth Westheimer would analyze everything.  Rescue Ink would keep everyone in line.  And Christopher Appoldt would capture everything on film.

David and Elvis Best interviewed gala guests, who were all passionate about Bideawee's mission to bring people and pets together. Bideawee's President and CEO, Nancy Taylor - always hands on at events - greeted guests, posed for photos, and joked about wearing black to an event with pups.  After kissing and holding so many dogs, Nancy was covered in fur.  Auctioneer Mary Testa, new to this doggy scene, was honored to participate and lend a hand.  Bideawee honored adoption center volunteer Susan Schwartzwald, and WebMD was their corporate honoree.

The fairy-tale setting was complete with lively conversation, wonderful food, and a gorgeous venue.  The canine crowd dined from silver platters.  The "Flying Chihuahuas" celebrated their forever homes.  Milo, the doggy rescued from Animal Care & Control, loved all the attention.

So, how do we make this fairy tale a reality for all homeless animals?

  • Support your local shelter or rescue group -- volunteer your time, donate your money, or adopt an animal in need. Bideawee offers public veterinary services, adoption centers, classes including the very popular doga -- dog and human yoga, volunteer programs, and many events.
  • Bypass the pet store. Adopt animals from shelters or reputable breeders.
  • Shop with a purpose.  Buy your pet supplies from sources that support animal rescue.
  • Attend events to meet people, share ideas, and learn new things.

Let's help all animals find their happily ever after!
