In February, San Diego-based VoIP company TelCentris unveiled their online chat and language translator program, VoxOx. The chat program can translate chat transcripts in real time, offering foreign language support for “dozens of major languages, and only one person has to be using VoxOx to have a two-way translated conversation.”
TelCentris offers VoxOx as a free downloadable program, with support for multiple chat formats, such as text messaging, instant messaging, and even voice services. While many of the VoIP phones program come standard on multiple online communication services such as Google Voice or Skype, none of its competitors offer live translation services.
The foreign language support, called Universal Translator, uses multi-lingual support to seamlessly translate as the words are passed across the board, allowing conversations between two different language speakers over the internet. The TelCentris website writes, “Social Networking is now Multi-Lingual,” offering support for many popular social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, and Myspace.
While VoxOx offers plenty of communication options, its voice options still offer less than top competitors like Google Voice, which offers unlimited local calling. Even so, having universal language support over chat provides VoIP business phone systems the unprecedented ability to grow into a global communications device without the aid of language study.
Perhaps the biggest drawing point to TelCentris’ new VoIP offering lies in its multiple program compatibility. Currently, VoxOx works with many major instant messaging programs, such as Yahoo! Messenger, AIM, Windows Live, and even competitors Skype and Google Talk.
CEO Bryan Hertz, who introduced VoxOx at the 2010 Mobile World Congress, said, “Never before has it been so easy for people of different languages to communicate instantaneously. We expect this innovation to help friends, relatives and business colleagues better communicate and connect with each other.”
While the program currently only offers a limited amount of free talk minutes (100 outbound), its collection of standard business and residential VoIP service features, such as “follow me,” call recording and caller ID, make it a highly useable and revolutionary program. The free program can be found on TelCentris’ website, along with some of the company’s other offerings.
