Improve your business writing

Every piece of paper from your business card to your company's new website will represent your small business.  Are you making the right first impression with your writing?  To improve your business writing, here are ten quick tips to ensure that your pen is mightier than your competition's sword.

  1. Be specific
  2. Make your writing brief and timely
  3. Ask for action or explain what the next step is for the reader
  4. Answer the 5 "W" word questions:  who, what, when, where and why
  5. Always include your contact information, no matter what!
  6. Spot an obvious mistake by reading your work out loud before you hit send or print
  7. Always use spell check
  8. Avoid acronyms
  9. Remember your audience and speak directly to them
