Evening mixers can be a great way to meet people and to make contacts for you business. Often, though, they can be hit or miss affairs. Too many times we end up meeting nice people, but not knowing what to say or do to get a good return for the time and effort invested.
Extreme Networking, created and sponsored by Sales Coach Now, changes that by adding simple, enjoyable activities that get you talking about your business and brainstorming ideas with others. It’s fun. It’s quick, and it works.
Just over 30 people met at a recent Extreme Networking event at a restaurant called At My Place in Corona. The evening began in a typical fashion. Everyone picked up a name tag at the door, then mingled or visited displays and demonstrations featuring Cookie Lee jewelry, Avon beauty products, The Original Balloon Shoppe, ADT Security, Heart to Hands Therapeutic Massage, and the Inland Empire Women’s Business Center (see slideshow for more information).
Things changed when Ursula Mentjes, founder of Sales Coach Now, took center stage. Mentjes began with inspiration. She talked about business opportunities during a recession, explaining what she did to triple her own business in the past year.
“Set a stretch goal for yourself,” said Mentjes, “Make it believable, then just do that next step – even though it’s usually scary and takes you out of your comfort zone. Also remember that quantum leaps come through other people. “
With that, participants were given an exercise that was surprisingly simple and enjoyable. Each person had to pick someone they didn’t know and asked to share:
- What YOU need to do to take a Quantum Leap in November and December!
- What you need help with in order to reach YOUR goal!
- How you can help the other person.
Energy in the room jumped as people began meeting and exchanging information and ideas. After a few minutes, people switched partners, again seeking out someone they did not know to repeat the exercise. Everyone met at least four new people during the evening. Conversations were quick and to the point. They were focused on solving problems and helping each other.
Everyone experienced a fun, fast-paced evening. They left with new ideas, new contacts, and the beginnings of new relationships.

With the way technology is, how people can meet over e-mail, IM's and such, the social aspect of bussiness I feel has left a bit. Its nice to see a company putting a focus on the basics of starting a business.... Going out and just saying hello!
Networking as well through socialization has always been a fantastic idea, in a relaxed atmosphere with a group of like minds, even those who think a bit differently can absolutely bring great things to a company on a whole. But it all must begin at... Hello
