With more and more emphasis being placed on website content these days, small businesses are finding it hard to keep up with the demands of writing, blogging and creating website content. And for those individuals who need help with their own writing and resume building, it's hard to find someone to turn to. The Grammar Doctors are just the people to turn to. This Phoenix small business has been around for 4 and a half years, owned by Amanda Collins, and is dedicated to providing quality content and resume writing help to those in the Phoenix area. Learn more about The Grammar Doctors below.

What product or service do you offer? marketing communications, copywriting, copyediting, resume design

How did your business get started? I started writing resumes in 1996 and had done marketing writing in higher education for nearly a decade. In 2006, my son was born, so I was looking for a way to have more time with him while earning an income. I chose to begin The Grammar Doctors!

Please describe the perfect user of your product or service: I have two distinct audiences. (1) A microbusiness with 1-5 employees that is looking to generate more traffic to its website and push clients through the sales funnel through targeted marketing communications. (2) Job seekers and companies downsizing that want to offer outplacement services to their laid-off employees.

What goals have you set for your business that you hope to achieve in the next 5 years? 10 years? 20 years? In five years, I would like to have a couple of employees and only be working ON my business as opposed to working IN it.

How have you promoted your business in the past? I do a lot of face-to-face networking across the Valley. I am a member of BNI, ASBA, and some other networking groups. I always wear scrubs and a stethoscope when I network because I'm The Grammar Doctor. I have also garnered some positive press online, in the Arizona Republic, and on local TV.

What is your upcoming product strategy? I am creating strategic partnerships with a Web designer to offer packaged Web content and writing to drive traffic, such as blogs and social media. I also have a number of speaking engagements scheduled for the summer.

What is your marketing strategy? I primarily practice word-of-mouth marketing. I write and distribute press releases to support events, and I leverage social media with a presence on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn.

How do you measure success? Obviously, the income generated by my business is a huge measure of success, but it's more than that. I feel successful when I provide my clients with a quality product and they feel proud of their business or self because of it.
