Orlando small business interview: Allison Vaughn of Cloth Couture Diapers

Tell me a bit about yourself and your business.
I am a 26 years old, married, and and the stay at home mother of an adorable 10 month old baby girl named Carli. It all started when I decided to pinch some pennies to stay home and cloth diapering was the way to do it.  I created Cloth Couture (ClothCoutureDiapers.com) with the idea that I would create trendy cloth diapers that were not only really absorbant but cute enough to convert the non-cloth diapering fans. So far it's worked! It also has allowed me to stay home with my daughter (and that was the most important thing to me!)

How long have you lived in Orlando?
I have lived in Orlando since I was only a thought in my parents mind (born and raised!).

How has the recession affected your business?
Not at all - in fact, it has helped. Cloth diapering allows families to save thousands of dollars in diapering their children. I love discussing the financial and environmental benefits of using cloth. Parents are always so surprised to hear how much money they are throwing down the toilet - especially when I tell them that there is a high resale market for used cloth diapers. It's possible to diaper your child for virtually nothing.

What advice do you have for Orlando small business owners?
Find something that you feel passionate enough about and do your research. Join communities of other business owners and ask questions. Don't be afraid to put yourself out there.
