Saturday, January 16, 2010 marks the official grand opening of Beyú Caffé, a new coffeehouse, bistro, and bar that serves a variety of coffee blends and other beverages along with breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert. Sample menu items include:
- Breakfast: House made Crepes and Breakfast Burrito
- Lunch: Southwestern Spicy Chicken Salad and Oyster Po Boy
- Dinner: Pretzel Crust Pork Chop and Grilled Hanger Steak
- Dessert: Oreo Cheesecake, Red Velvet Cookie, and German Chocolate Cake
The genius behind the creation of its menu is Chef Mary Melie, former chef at Guglhupf Bakery and Pattisserie in Durham.
Several articles by the Durham Herald-Sun over the last year have highlighted the construction and opening progress of Beyu. The coffeehouse has been in soft launch mode since early December 2009. In that time, the founder and manager, Dorian Bolden, has solicited and received feedback, and actually implemented some of it.
Throughout the soft opening, Beyu has offered entertainment including performances by Marcus Anderson and the Joey Squire Trio. Spoken word and jazz performances will be a part of the essence of Beyu as a place where patrons can visit to eat and relax. According to Beyu’s Twitter announcements, poetry kicks off in February.
The grand opening of this unique coffeehouse and jazz lounge will include a performance by the Brian Horton Trio at 9 pm. If you have not visited Beyú Caffe during its soft opening, be sure to make it to their grand opening. It is located at the historic Snow Building on 335 W. Main Street in Durham. Hours of operation are Monday – Saturday, 7 am – 11 pm. You can call (919) 683-1058 for further information.
