- Coltsfoot has been a long time remedy for cough, sore throat, laryngitis, bronchitis and asthma; however, it has also been linked to liver damage and cancer. Coltsfoot is also known as coughwort, farfarae folium leaf and foalswort.
- Comfrey has been used to help with cough, heavy menstrual periods, chest pain and cancer, but has been linked to liver damage and cancer. Also, called blackwort, common comfrey and slippery root, the FDA told manufacturers to remove comfrey products from the market in 2001.
- Country Mallow is used to treat nasal congestion, allergies, asthma, bronchitis and weight loss, but can also cause heart attack, heart rhythm disturbances and stroke which sometimes can lead to death. Country mallow is also known as heartleaf, Sida cordifolia and silky white mallow.
- Germanium has been used as a remedy to treat pain, infections, glaucoma, liver problems, arthritis, osteoporosis, heart disease, cancer and HIV/AIDS. It has; however, been linked to kidney damage and even death. Also called Ge, Ge-132 and germanium-132, the FDA has also been warning of its problems since 1993.
- Greater Celandine has been said to help with "detoxification" and upset stomach, irrititable bowel syndrome, liver disorders and cancer; however it can cause liver damage. Other names are celandine, chelidonii herba and Chelidonium majus.
- Lobelia is used for cough, bronchitis, asthma, and to help people to quit smoking; however, it can cause fast heartbeat, low blood pressure, coma and even death. The FDA warned about lobelia in 1993. Lobelia is also called asthma weed, Lobelia inflata, Pokeweed and vomit wort.
- Yohimbe has been used as an aphrodisiac, to help with some sexual dysfunctions, chest pain, complications of diabetes and depression. However, it has been linked to high blood pressure, rapid heart rate, low blood pressure, heart problems and even death. Yomhimbe is also known as yohimbine, Corynanthe yohimbi and Corynanthe johimbi. The FDA issued a warning about the risks in 1993.
- Kava has been said to be effective in treating anxiety, but it can cause liver damage. The FDA warned about kava in 1993 and is currently banned in Germany, Canada, and Switzerland. This remedy is also known as awa, Piper methysticum and kava-kava.
- Colloidal Silver has been used for help with infections, Lyme disease, facial redness (rosacea), psoriasis, food poisoning, chronic fatigue syndrome and HIV/AIDS. Unfortunately, it has been known to turn the skin a bluish color- as seen here on Paul Karason- and has caused neurological problems and kidney damage. Other names for Colloidal silver are ionic silver, native silver, Silver in suspending agent.
