10. How I Met Your Mother. CBS, 8:00 (premiere Sep 21).
A sitcom that co-stars Dr. Horrible and Willow? Yeah, the writing can be a little obvious, but right now its one of the longest running sitcoms on the air, and thats got to count for something, right? Geek Quotient: 6.9

- 9. Vampire Diaries. CW, 8:00 (premiere Sep 10). Itd be easy to write this off as a Twilight clone on TV, but its based on a totally different young adult novel series about vampires who dont actually drink blood. Dont think about it toohey, look! Boobies! Geek Quotient: 6.9
- 8. FlashForward. ABC, 8:00 (premiere Sep 24). Everybody in the world gets a 2:17 premonition of the future six months hence. Starring John (Star Trek, Harold & Kumar) Cho, two people from Lost and the brother of the guy who plays Voldemort. It may be too cool for school, but we can only hope it makes it to the end of the first season. 0.5 bonus points for including a hobbit. Geek Quotient: 7.2
- 7. Bones. Fox, 8:00, (premiere Sep 17). David Boreanaz is one of the more underrated comedic actors on television. Hes been on TV basically every week for 13 years, from Buffy to Angel to Bones without skipping a beat. When Bones eventually leaves the air, I fully expect to see him the following year as the dad of some wacky family that solves crimes while driving across country. Geek Quotient: 7.3
- 6. Supernatural. CW, 9:00 (premiere Sep 10). This is like every on the road program from the 80s, but with more trenchcoats. Geek Quotient: 7.5
- 5. Dollhouse. Fox, 9:00 (premiere Sep 25). Possibly the best show youre not watching. Sure, it started out with a little too much cheesecake, but over the spring season it grew into a pretty tight little ensemble drama with a strong developing storyline. Geek Quotient: 7.6
- 4. Fringe. Fox, 9:00 (premiere Sep 17). This show is so messed up that even the cards leading into the commercials spell out secret messages. And its the only show in primetime that is guaranteed to seriously mess you up before the title sequence every single week. Geek Quotient: 8.8
- 3. Heroes. NBC, 8:00 (premiere Sep 21). Any kind of geek cred Heroes gets for the subject matter is squandered on ridiculous plot twists, plot holes you could drive a train through, and character motivations that change faster than a speeding bullet. But, in concept, if not execution, this is one the geekiest shows on broadcast TV. Geek Quotient: 8.9
- 2. V. ABC, (premiere Nov 3). If you are a geek of legal drinking age, you remember the glory that was the original V miniseries, and how much it messed with your head when you-know-what happened. This new series has a big red pleather jacket to fill, but if its half as awesome as the original miniseries, itll still be better than anything else on tonight. Geek Quotient 8.9
- 1. Big Bang Theory. CBS, 9:30 (premiere Sep 21). Id find this show offensive if it werent so accurate. Anyone whos ever picked up an Isaac Asimov book out of the bargain bin knows at least one of the archetypes on this show. And they do their research. Theyve done jokes about the Speed Force. Whos going to get jokes about the Speed Force? You, thats who. Geek Quotient: 9.2
