A bulge developing in the sidewall of a tire, most likely from hitting a large pothole. Bulges like this can lead to serious problems, including unexpected and catastrophic tire failure.
The top tire in this photo shows excessive wear on the outer edge of the tire. Excessive wear on the outer or inner edge of a tire can indicate wheel alignment concern or a more serious issue with a suspension component.
Keeping tires inflated to proper levels extends tire life, improves fuel economy and makes for a better riding vehicle.
Periodic visual inspections can find problems such as the one shown in this photo: A nail or screw puncture.
Catastrophic tire failure like that seen here can usually be avoided by detecting and correcting problems early.
Motorists can easily check tread depth on their own with the aid of a penny.
This tire has a cut in the sidewall and the wheel is also slightly bent. This type of damage is commonly due to hitting a large pothole.
