- This is a guide to this Examiner's prediction model for new Doctors' personalities
- The Doctor persona cycle includes three basic personality categories: the Invulnerables, the Incorruptibles, and the Incorrigibles. These types cycle and repeat every three Doctors. For example, if the 1st is Invulnerable, the 2nd is Incorruptible, the 3rd Incorrigible, the 4th returns to Invulnerable, and so forth
- The Invulnerables The first persona type is embodied in the 1st, 4th, 7th, and 10th Doctors. These are the iconic Doctors, the fearless incarnations, the archetypal heroes. The Doctors of this persona class are the ones who laugh in the face of the darkness.
- The First Doctor Dont let his age fool you the original Doctor was quick-witted, fiercely intelligent, absolutely confident, and deceptively active. Unsuspecting foes often found themselves cut down by his words and his cane. No wonder he was the Daleks greatest enemy.
- The Fourth Doctor Manic, towering, imposing, fearless. With his bulging eyes, endless scarf, and booming voice, this incarnation was a force of nature and an unstoppable onslaught against evil. Never one to pull punches, this Doctor faced powerhouse villains including the Master, Davros, Daleks, Cybermen, Sontarans, Zygons, Wirrn, Morbius, Sutekh, and the Black Guardian.
- The Seventh Doctor Now here is a Doctor and a half. Dark, brooding, manipulative, cunning, ruthless, and mysterious, this version was a cold and calculating masterplanner. He perceived an enemys weakness often before he ever met them. And make no mistake, with enemies like the Candyman, Lady Peinforte, the Gods of Ragnarok, Light, Fenric, and a desperate, feral Master, the cosmos needed a Doctor who was just as dangerous as the monsters.
- The Tenth Doctor The dearly departed Doctor was a tireless bundle of energetic smiles and laughs, all while he tore his enemies carefully lain plans to shreds and dust. His were the best of enemies: the Master, Davros, Daleks, Cybermen, Macra, Sontarans, Judoon, manic Ood, Weeping Angels, the Krillitaine. All things in one, this Doctor was fire and ice, rage and mirth, happiness and sorrow, the last of the Time Lords, the lonely angel.
- The Incorruptibles The second Doctor persona category is the Incorruptibles. These are so far the 2nd, 5th, and 8th Doctors. These are the younger, human, less eccentric, and more empathetic incarnations. They stand for justice, truth, friendship, tend to see morality in simple black and white terms, and are endlessly bright. They are the versions that make the most pleasant companions.
- The Second Doctor The first new Doctor was a refreshingly liberated mixture of whimsy and wit, charm and care, strength and safety. Far younger than his predecessor, he pioneered new frontiers of wonder and mystery in an ever perilous cosmos. A Time Lord of many sides, this Doctor remains one of most fondly remembered and dearly missed.
- The Fifth Doctor The first of the modern Doctors, this very young regeneration chased down magic and fantasy in every nook and cranny the universe had to offer or hide. No discovery was too small, no challenge too big for this incarnations boundless energy. Through every marvel and terror he faced there was a calming, placid innocence about this Doctor, which made him all the more incredible to behold.
- The Eighth Doctor The one that got away. With only one television appearance to date, this Doctor is a strange, passing visitor. Nevertheless, in the few minutes we knew him, this young Byronic incarnation managed to radiate a warmth, compassion, and absolutely infectious zest for life almost unequalled by his peers. No wonder many fans still hope for a special return from the romantic hero from the stars.
- The Incorrigibles The third and final class of the Doctor persona cycle so far includes the 3rd, 6th, and 9th Doctors. These Doctors tend to be more world-weary, pragmatic, grand-standing, and older than their direct predecessors. They are also fiercely moral, unflinchingly bold, and often hide some inner turmoil.
- The Third Doctor Velvet and ruffles, cars, planes, and motorcycles. This Doctor strode into any situation with a clear sense of right and wrong, which always meant he was right. He was charming but impatient, caring but firm. This Doctors inner angst was suffering the indignity of being exiled by the Time Lords to Earth in the late 60s/ early 70s. He valiantly strove to show he was no ordinary man and heaven help any who disbelieved him.
- The Sixth Doctor Large in stature and overpowering in demeanor, this incarnation was brassy, bold, boorish, and blasting to enemies and sometimes friends alike. Despite his rougher exterior, the hearts of this Doctor were pure and strong, even when he faced the humiliation of being threatened with death once more by the Time Lords.
- The Ninth Doctor Cheery on the outside, chilly with survivors guilt on the inside, this Doctor was a man on the run, rushing about, shouting orders or waiting on the sidelines like a coiled spring ready to release fiery shards of sarcasm. The scars of the Time War haunted him throughout his (possibly) brief life, but in the end he overcame his fears and saved the Earth and his friends from the Daleks.
- Up next And so, with the persona model explained, what kind of Doctor will the next incarnation be? Invulnerable? Incorruptible? Incorrigible? I predict
- The Eleventh Doctor the last of the incorruptibles The Eleventh Doctor will follow the footsteps of the 2nd, 5th, and 8th Doctors to become an Incorruptible incarnation. Already we can see he is young and by all early reports he seems to have a touch of the fantasy about him. Only time will confirm the specific points of his persona, but at first glance, this Doctor seems ready to smile!
- A future thought: The Twelfth Doctor Clearly this is not a photo of the Twelfth Doctor, but for the sake of speculation, I will make the extremely early prediction that the 12th Doctor will be an Incorrigible Doctor, in fact the ultimate Incorrigible Doctor. Who knows what his exact personality will be, but if this persona model holds, when this Doctor arrives I have high hopes to be both frightened and thrilled.
