- do-it-yourself soil test
- use a trowel to dig several holes (3" deep)
- collect soil from various locations in your garden
- after you've dried the soil, place it (along with automatic dish washing powder and water) into a jar with a lid
- Allow the contents of the jar to settle out. Measure the layers that have formed and use the Soil texture triangle to determine the texture of your soil.
- Amend soil as necessary based on results obtained from the soil texture test.
