- Australia's HMAS Kanimbla is a helicopter capable amphibious transfer ship capable of supporting 4 Army Black Hawk helicopters. Her primary mission is to transport, land, and support 450 personnel, their vehicles and equipment. The Kanimbla began life in the USN as the USS Saginaw (LST-1188), a Newport-class tank landing ship, and has undergone extensive modifications before and after being commisioned in the Australian Navy in 1994. As part of RIMPAC, the Kanimbla, one of only 3 amphibious landing platforms in the exercise, will launch and recover a platoon of US Marine Corps Amphibious Assault Vehicles. - The HMAS Newcastle is one of four Adelaide Class guided missile frigates currently in service with the Royal Australian Navy. Adelaide Class frigates are based on the USN Oliver Hazard Perry Class design. They are long range escort ships with roles including air defense, anti-submarine warfare, surveillance, interdiction, and reconnaisance. Each ship is capable of countering simultaneous threats from the air, surface, and sub-surface. Adelaide Class frigates are armed with Standard medium-range anti-aircraft missiles, as well as Harpoon anti-ship missiles, in addition to a 76mm gun and a close-in Phalanx missile system for anti-missile defense. - The Republic of Korea submarine ROKS Lee Eokgi (SS 071) leads a formation of U.S. and coalition forces during Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) 2010 exercises. The Republic of Korea Navy (ROKN) currently operates a submarine flotilla of nine diesel-electric Chang Bogo Class (Type 209/1200) type submarines. In the aftermath of the sinking of the ROKS Chinoan (reportedly by a North Korean submarine) the ROKS Lee Eokgi will offer superlative training opportunites. According to NTI, a nuclear non-proliferation website, Chang Bogo Class submarines can be armed with 14 torpedoes or 28 mines. (Photo: USN)
- According to the USN, the Ronald Reagan can attain speeds in excess of 30 knots. The nuclear-powered carrier can support approximately 85 aircraft and has a crew of approximately 3,200. The USS Ronald Reagan is additionally armed with two Mk 29 NATO Sea Sparrow launchers and two Rolling Airframe Missile (RAM) Systems. - USS Devastator (MCM-6) is the sixth of the fourteen AVENGER Class mine counter-measures ships in the USN and the second ship in the Navy to bear the name. Avenger class ships are designed as mine hunter-killers capable of finding, classifying and destroying moored and bottom mines. The last three MCM ships were purchased in 1990, bringing the total to 14 fully deployable, ocean-going Avenger class ships. These ships use sonar and video systems, cable cutters and a mine detonating device that can be released and detonated by remote control. They are also capable of conventional sweeping measures. The ships are of fiberglass sheathed, wooden hullconstruction. They are the first large mine countermeasures ships built in the United States in nearly 27 years. (USN Photo)
- When USS Los Angeles (SSN-688) was decommissioned on 23 January 2010, the USS Bremerton, also Los Angeles Class submarine, became the oldest commissioned submarine in the US fleet.According to the U.S. government, the top speed of Los Angeles-class submarines is over 25 knots (some estimates put the top speed at 3033 knots).
