- The fabric used in a bridesmaid dress can make a fabulous rose pillow.
- You may think you're going to wear that bridesmaid dress again - but definitely not when it doesn't fit anymore.
- This skirt was made up of one large piece of fabric for the front and four smaller pieces in the back.
- This shows the pieces I used to make the ruffle. I cut off the bottom since it is already hemmed. I used a seam ripper to separate the four strips of fabric.
- I cut all the strips to the same width and hemmed the ones that needed it. I then sewed the strips together to make one long piece.
- I used the front piece of fabric to cut out a rectangle to create an envelope pillow cover. I used a second-hand pillow as my pillow form.
- Cut the rectangle so that the back pieces overlap by about 3 inches. Trim the sides to allow a one inch seam allowance. Mark the front area of your pillow cover with pins.
- Remove the pillow. Mark the center point of your pillow front with a pin.
- Your pins will give you an idea of the size of the front of your pillow. The pin marking the center shows you where to start pinning the ruffle.
- Hem the two back flaps.
- With the right side of the ruffle fabric facing up and the right side of the cover fabric facing up, begin pinning the ruffle to the fabric, starting from the center of the pillow and spiraling outward.
- Gather the ruffle fabric every inch or so and pin.
- Starting from the outside of the spiral, sew along the pin line, removing pins before you reach them.
- Push the ruffle toward the middle of the pillow. Fold one flap back along the pin line. (These are the pins that mark the shape of the front of the pillow.)
- Fold over the second flap. The wrong side of the fabric should be facing up. Sew up the sides using a one-inch seam allowance.
- Trim the seams, turn the pillow cover right side out and insert the pillow.
