- Tower of London. (Look for links to this & other cool places to visit in London at the end of the article!) Incidentally, they have a "pet" raven there named -- get this -- "Ronnie Raven," in deference to the 1980s special relationship between American Prez Ronald Reagan & British PM Margaret Thatcher.
- No, this is not London Bridge (I fell for it also when the tour guide asked "What is this?") -- it's the Tower Bridge. FYI: Rumor has it that the original London Bridge was sold brick by brick to some guy -- the winning bidder -- in Arizona! Strange but true!!
- Big Ben, the famous clock tower abutting the edge of the Houses of Parliament.
- Homes in the fashionable West End of London, where I got lost one day....and started humming that 80s song "West End Girls."
- The American Cemetery in Cambridge, England. Our class visited this hallowed site the day after our American Memorial Day. There were many nice cards & wreaths left there from our British comrades-in-arms.
- At the home of world-renowned author Charles Dickens ("Please, sir, may I have another?"), located at 48 Doughty Street, London. For anyone who ever saw "American Werewolf in London," that's exactly what the row of houses on this quaint street looked like! I was expecting an American werewolf at any moment!
- The world-famous British Museum. You absolutely need more than a day or even two to adequately explore this behemoth!
- The author met a very cool English lady at Museum Tavern Pub, in Bloomsbury, London -- one who called me a "Transpondian," and one who rolled her own cigarettes!
- Sami & her English pal Gregory Maxwell. We'd been Internet pals for a few years before finally having an opportunity to meet in person. As you can see, and as Yanks are wont to do, I ignored his cultural lessons on lager, & went with bottled American Bud instead. I did, however, kindly bring him a small American flag to display on his front door or yard!
