Season one of "24" was outstanding both for its concept and cast. But on a series where characters come and go (and die) so quickly)--this show unfortunately only has a handful of memorable characters.

- The series "Boston Public" was great in its first year. With characters such as Harper and Gruber, and a great staff of teachers that included Loretta Devine and Nicky Katt, this show's cast was of high quality.
- This was a difficult decision. Ultimately, while the "Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" was indeed a great show, only a handful of characters stand out. Will, Hilary, Carlton, Uncle Phil, Jazz, and Geoffrey were all stellar. But the "okay at best" Ashley and mediocre "second Vivian" helped keep this TV ensemble from cracking the top 20.
- "Scrubs" had a great and extremely underrated cast. From J.D to Carla to the Janitor, this series was fantastic. Even minor characters like Ted stood out. And though the later seasons took a dive in quality and believable storylines, this cast was top notch.
- The series of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" is loved by many, and rightfully so. Though the series is based on a movie that no doubt received mixed reviews, the show itself is well done. And while the cast is strong and the characters well written, the show (and subsequently its actors) can lean a bit too heavy on the camp.
- Whether it's the original cast, or one from the later years, "Star Trek" made sure it's actors believed in their sci-fi characters. There's no doubt that certain science fiction shows such as this or even "Battlestar Galactica" could've easily earned a spot on this countdown.
- The HBO drama "The Sopranos" was fantastic, but beyond Tony, Carmela, and a few other characters, did this cast really standout? The character of Jennifer Melfi was purposefully understated and subtly acted by Lorraine Bracco. Tony's children, especially A.J, felt believable, and Christopher was without question excellent. But characters such as Pauly and Silvio felt too cliche and cookie-cutter.
- A sweet and sometimes brutal coming of age drama, "The Wonder Years" featured great characters. Fred Savage played Kevin, and everyone from Paul to Winnie to adult Kevin narrating (Daniel Stern) were top notch. Kevin's father was perfectly cast as was his mother. And brother Wayne was a delightfully annoying creep. There's not a bad casting decision within the family, though some characters outside of the Arnold home were less memorable.
