- With the exception of Jered Weaver, every member of the Angels starting rotation is locked up for next season, and they will sport one of the better staffs in the league. Signing Weaver is a much bigger priority at this point in time.
- Based on the last three seasons, including a Cy Young award, Cliff Lee will no doubt command a contract similar to that of his former teammate, C.C. Sabathia. For a thirty-something pitcher, that's the type of contract with a high element of risk.
- Not to throw out rumors here, but does anyone else think that four teams in two seasons is a bit excessive? Not saying that Cliff Lee is a problem child, but almost seems a little coincidental that he is constantly on the move.
- The services of Cliff Lee will be highly sought after by large market teams like the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox. Angel GM Reagins may be better served by sitting this one out and just watching the protracted bidding war that will take place.
- The Angels bullpen was 11th in the American League with a 4.23 ERA, not to mention leading the league in walks and wild pitches. Reagins and manger Mike Scioscia have indicated the need for a veteran middle reliever to solidify the bullpen.
- While Jayson Werth has certainly put up nice offensive numbers during his three years with the Phillies, the huge price tag that will be dangled for his services is indeed steep, especially considering his production dipped from 2009 levels.
- With the announcement last week that Werth had replaced agent Jeff Borris with Scott Boras, a collective gasp could be heard from most MLB teams looking to sign him. To say that he is a ferocious agent is akin to saying that Lady Gaga is mild-mannered.
- The signing of Crawford would be an instant fix for the leadoff position in the Angels lineup, giving middle of the lineup batters Hunter, Kendry Morales and Bobby Abreu more opportunities to capitalize on scoring chances.
- Losing Kendry Morales to a season-ending broken leg was a huge blow to the Angels offense, and a loss that 10 separate first basemen could not match or overcome. The signing of proven veteran utility players will add needed depth to the Angels bench.
- Jayson Werth spent three years with the Dodgers that were certainly forgettable. One decent year followed by two injury filled seasons led to his release, and the thought of California Dreaming probably does not lend a whole lot of appeal.
