- Before rehydration, the texture resembles muesli.
- Although the sample sizes are too small to include these colorful pieces of recognizable fruits, veggies and grains, they are plentiful in the full-sized portions (except for grain-free formulas, which do not include grains). See the banana and carrots in the middle, and peas near the top?
- After rehydration, the texture resembles cooked oatmeal. It is critical to rehydrate before serving so that this process does not take place inside your pet's stomach instead.
- When first transitioning your pet from a processed diet, introduce the rehydrated food gradually, mixing a small amount of The Honest Kitchen with regular kibble or canned food for the first couple of days. Then gradually increase the ratio.
- Extra ingredients may be mixed in with the food if desired. The Calcium:phosphorous ratio of the food is set to allow for additional meat and raw bones to be mixed in without throwing the ratio outside its optimal limits.
- Meat, yogurt, cottage cheese, eggs, fish, frutis, vegetables, certain nuts and seeds are good additives. Al has become a big fan of whole carrots and likes to chomp on them in his downtime. He also favors cooked cauliflower and frozen blueberries -but shows a strong dislike for blackberries and water chestnuts. Please check to make sure to check if the food you choose to add is safe for dog consumption.
- The rehydrated product has a pleasant (although I realize this is subjective) aroma reminiscent of 'human' seasonings.
- Al licks his bowl clean every time. An immediate result of his switch to The Honest Kitchen is that he has stopped choking on water he used to slurp up much too quickly after every dry kibble meal. He also does not need to be taken out to urinate as much: score for me.
- Additionally, there have been no recent incidents like this one. Perhaps he does not feel the need to garbage dive anymore? Al has not been eating The Honest Kitchen for long enough to note full effects on health and behavior, but initial reports are promising. Check out other customer reviews on the company's website.
