- We had only been staying in the Marigny with Gretchen for about a week when she brought home Harriet. She had gotten word that the Abbyville pound was holding a female Doberman puppy scheduled for execution within 24 hours.
- Gretchen asked us to look after Harriet until Gulf Coast Doberman Rescue could adopt her out. She was snotty and gangly and skin and bones. Patrick said she looked like a super model with her protruding hip bones.
- It was cold, cold, cold last winter. Harriet was too skinny to sleep alone. She needed our warmth. She slept under the covers, between us. She stretched out. She was a libertine from the beginning.
- We were just two days into the fostering, and Patrick wanted to stop all of our nonsense and settle down. Get real jobs. Get a house. Anything to have Harriet as our own.
- Harriet was feeling better. She had been picked up running in a field in Abbyville. She had been taken to the pound. She had been rescued. This dog was a survivor.
