- We wanted the landscape of our film to be almost post-apocalyptic, so we sought out locations that would lend themselves to that. Because of the intense recovery efforts in St. Bernard Parish, there are not many of these locations left in Chalmette.
- Our main character is 17 year old Destiny played by the amazing Dominique Thompson. We wanted to see this tiny girl and her dog in the landscape. How would she move? How would she photograph? Would the dog behave?
- We ended up not shooting in this location, but we have plans for it or something like it for the feature film, which is darker and more towards science fiction and specifically post-apocalypse.
- We were both interested in representing how nature takes over if left unchecked. We like weeds growing in the cracks and trees overturning concrete. We like dust and decay.
- The fact that this is where the hospital used to be lends evidence to the idea that it is more important to have a Taco Bell than health care. Commerce, Industry and fast food will always over shadow the basic needs of a community.
- This is our wasteland. It is ripe for shooting. Because, before too long, like the decaying remains of Village Square, this will also be gone and replaced by a shiny new thing that will invite us to consume without thought.
