Looking good from this angle. The rest of the design of the Chevy Cruze is staid and sober. It falls behind the Ford Focus’ lively design. Still, this is the sedan I would most likely choose between the two. Credit: N.D. Adlen

- A week’s worth of family luggage just fit in the commodious trunk. Somehow, I managed to squeeze the stroller in too, without it breaking.
- My main disappointment is the interior materials. Ford’s Focus is much better both in design and execution. My biggest gripe is the hood over the gauge pod. The plastics are cheap while the fitment is jagged and imprecise.
- Go to the beach if you’re in Southern California. Seriously, it doesn’t cost anything if you go to Zuma Beach and park on the side of the road. Avoid gas stations on PCH and get your gas further inland – you’ll save a bundle.
- The Chevy Cruze did an admirable job drying off our sandy cloths after our beach romp. This was just in time for a full sized family Rosh Hashanah (Jewish New Year) dinner.
- Cruze’d to the American Lung Association’s Fight for Air Walk in Santa Monica. It was a tight squeeze, but no one complained. This was a great way to start our Californian adventure at this impeccably run event.
- Disneyland: mad at the staff’s lackadaisical attitude – ESPECIALLY when my kid got WACKED in the eye on “Winnie the Pooh”. It left me with a less-than zip-pedi-doda feeling after such an expense. At least the little ones slept well in the Cruze.
