- The Daleks are they first appeared in 1963's The Daleks, with the First Doctor, Susan, and Ian (collapsed)
- The early era Daleks were silver with light blue bumps
- By 1965's The Chase, the Dalek design had gained a row of grills above the gun and sucker stalks
- 1966's The Dalek Masterplan: a new Dalek color emerges: the Black Dalek, which typically serves as a Dalek regimental leader
- The Power of the Daleks in 1966 introduced the Second Doctor, who with Ben and Polly battled the race on Vulcan. The upcoming story Victory of the Daleks may be partially based on this adventure, which featured the Daleks posing as willing servants to the Vulcan colonists.
- 1967 - The Evil of the Daleks, introduced the Emperor Dalek, which would re-surface occasionally in Doctor Who books and audios featuring the Daleks. The Emperor Daleks would return onscreen in 2005's The Parting of the Ways
- 1971 -Day of the Daleks brought the Daleks back from a half decade absence and into the color era of the Third Doctor. A new, gold Dalek debuted, along with darker grey Daleks
- Death to the Daleks in late 1973 recycled the light silver-hued Daleks from the B&W years, albeit these versions had black bumps
- 1975: Genesis of the Daleks introduced Davros (Micheal Wisher) and showed the Fourth Doctor and Harry (plus Sarah Jane Smith) the origins of the Daleks. Note the serially anachronistic solid dark grey Dalek color
- Dark grey Daleks menaced the Fifth Doctor in 1983's Resurrection of the Daleks, in which Davros (Terry Molloy) hatched a scheme to divide and re-create the Dalek race
- 1984: Revelation of the Daleks pitted the Sixth Doctor against the Daleks and Davros once more. Here we see a new color, white Daleks with gold bumps. These Daleks are ones loyal to Davros, and were the next step in his Dalek revolution.
- The Daleks made their final appearance in the series' original run in 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, fighting the Seventh Doctor and Ace. Upgraded White/Gold or Imperial Daleks fought the traditional grey and Black (Renegade) Daleks over the Hand of Omega, a mythical Time Lord weapon. Davros once again appeared, this time as a rival Emperor Dalek.
- The Special Weapons Dalek, the first radical redesign of the Dalek armor, also from Remembrance of the Daleks.
- 2005: the Big Finish audio Terror Firma pitted the Eighth Doctor against the Daleks and Davros once more. Some fans tend to believe the RTD era style Dalek "debuts" in this adventure.
- Also from 2005 is the Dalek's first appearance in the New Series in an adventure simply called, "Dalek." The standard gun-metal grey color has shifted to bronze, and the overall Dalek armor looks thicker and battle ready.
- The Ninth Doctor, Jack, and Rose face an army of bronze Daleks led by the radically overhauled Emperor Dalek in 2005's The Parting of the Ways.
- 2006: Doomsday brought the Tenth Doctor, Rose, and Mickey, into Dalek territory once more. These Daleks are the Cult of Skaro, an elite group created by the Emperor to outwit Time Lords during the Time War
- The Cult of Skaro's Daleks had names and were led by a Black Dalek (the first in the New Series) named Dalek Sec
- Dalek Sec eventually became a Human Dalek in 2007's Daleks in Manhattan/Evolution of the Daleks
- A Red Supreme Dalek took command in 2008's The Stolen Earth/Journey's End. Davros (Julian Bleach) also returned in this adventure
