Here is how the controversial artwork on the rejected city vehicle sticker stacks up with signs and graffiti of the Maniac Latin Disciples.
The teenage artist clams he was once rescued by first responders, and that the outstretched hands on his sticker are meant as a tribute. It appears that all fingers on each hand are extended.
The classic Maniac Latin Disciples pitchfork hand sign involves an extended thumb and ring finger.
The art teacher who oversaw the project says she showed the kid this book cover to show him how to draw hands.
Here is another hand sign said to a favorite of the MLD gang, two hands forming a heart.
Critics say the heart motif in the student sticker is, again, a reference to the MLD. The kids mother says she suggested it to her son, to symbolize love and gratitude.
This is how MLD graffiti depicts the heart, with devil horns and swastikas.
Are upstretched hands supposed to resemble devils horns?Are skyline buildings placed to form a pitchfork salute?The visual evidence is thin, in these eyes.
