- Missouri Ave, usually, a quiet street in Central Phoenix, became a main thoroughfare for this year's Rock 'n' Roll marathon.
- Keith Makela and Scott Gibson, Gumby and Pokey, respectively, arrived to cheer on the runners at 12th Street and Missouri.
- Vickie Scroggins and Cedric Williams were enthusiastic supporters of Scroggin's daughter, Candice Wolk, who was running in her first full marathon.
- Darlene Whitmire was also enjoying her first 26 mile marathon. Her husband, Darren, also competed.
- Cheerleaders from Marcos de Niza High School in Tempe provided entertainment for the runners and the spectators.
- Amanda Cogsweill, a cheer coach for Marcos de Niza, said the Tempe High School comes to cheer the runners every year.
