- To begin, remove the packaging from the clothespins and take the pins apart by removing the spring in order to paint and paper the bare wood.
- Mix some white acrylic paint with a few sprays of water from a Mini Mister to thin the paint. This will allow the wood grain to show through the paint. Then paint the wooden pins with a thin coat of paint and let them dry completely.
- For this tutorial the Cosmo Cricut Delovely collection of patterned papers and the Ready-Set-Chip is used for a quick way to embellish the clothespin. You can use any embellishments or coordinating patterned paper you choose.
- To ensure an exact fit for the paper, lay the pin upside down on the back side of the patterned paper and trace the outline of the wood. Then use your paper trimmer to cut just inside while also leaving the long end about 1/8 of inch longer than the bottom of the long end of the pin.
- Use your bone folder to score the paper in the groove where the spring will be reattached. Once you score the paper, that extra 1/8 of an inch will be taken up and the paper fits perfectly from end to end.
- use Mod Podge to adhere the paper to the wood by first spreading a thin layer on the wood adher the paper to the clip and apply more Mod Podge to the top of the paper as well.
- Repeat the process for both sides of the pin and allow them to dry.
- Select the embellishments you want adhered to each side of the pin and replac the spring that holds the two sides together.
- Optional: Select two photographs that you want to display using the clothespin. Matt each 4 x 6 photo with coordinating cardstock cut at 4 1/4 inches by 6 1/4 inches. Adhere photograph to the cardstock.
- Embellish the pin as desired with chipboard, pearls, ribbons or anything that you can glue down onto the pin.
- This photograph shows one side of the finished clothespin (the opposite side was displayed at the top of this post)
- This is a another pin using the same tutorial except that the inside of the pin is decorated with patterned paper (not just the front) and different embellishments were used.
