Warm storm heads to Tahoe
After a relatively dry start to the season, the Lake Tahoe resort has received 30 to 65 inches of snowfall in recent December storms. The National Weather Service forecast predicts more precipitation in the area on Tuesday and Wednesday. However, snow levels may reach as high as 6,800 feet. Heavenly's base elevation is 6,565 feet, so the lowest areas of the mountain may receive some rain. The warmer storm is good news though in that the wetter snow should help provide good coverage on most of the mountain. With a vertical drop of about 3,500 feet, Heavenly boasts a summit elevation of 10,067 feet, the highest among Lake Tahoe resorts.
The resort ran 18 of its 29 lifts on Monday, but it expects to be in full operation by Saturday. The 4,800 skiable acres at Heavenly straddle the border of California and Nevada.
