Starting this next Friday, August 21st – and running for one week only – theaters nationwide will be showing “X Games 3D: The Movie”.
The full-length documentary, directed by Steve Lawrence and narrated by actor Emile Hirsch, brings a tri-dimensional perspective of the celebrated annual action sports festival, featuring over 90% of native 3D content and using the latest in digital 3D technologies.
Professional skateboarders Bob Burnquist, Danny Way and Shaun White are among the cast that include other prominent X athletes such as Travis Pastrana and Ricky Carmichael.
Not much is known as for the reasons the movie is set for a one-week limited engagement only.
At any rate, Walt Disney Pictures is not a strange to such marketing gimmicks; ultimately, it could come down to boosting the box office numbers for this ESPN Films production.
Highlights go to the movie score, featuring various works by the electronic duo The Crystal Method, including original tracks and reworked versions from their current album "Divided by Night", as well as from earlier records.
However, the film focuses on the X Games 14, which was held in 2008 and much of the Way vs. Burnquist Big Air duel is to some extent outdated at this point in time – and its 2D footage counterpart has been overly viewed and reviewed on TV and Web.
In the L.A. area, only a handful of theaters will exhibit the movie. To find the one near you, go to http://showtimes.disneypictures.com.
