Dunkirk Skatepark contest coverage and park re-construction update

This is Part 2 of the Global Skateboarding Network.com's video coverage of the Dunkirk Skatepark's 2010 contest presented by the Southern Maryland Skate Association. This clip stars Charmcity Skatepark riders Zack WilliamsKDN MaxwellMyles WillardTyrone HendersonPure Skateshop riders Alex Johns and Christian BatungAggro Joe's riders George Wise and Colby Almony and Green Trucks and Positiv Skateboards rider Rodney Jones. The clip was filmed by Cody Seekford and it was edited by Charmcity Skatepark owner Jason Chapman.

"In the last article I wrote on the Dunkirk Skatepark I made a mistake by stating that the new Dunkirk Skatepark was going to be a concrete park. The rumor of concrete made perfect sense given the moist woodland conditions of the area, but it looks like they're going to go with a Pop Up Park. The term Pop Up Park refers to the wave of prefab skateparks that are popping up across the country. Most of which are relatively cheap to build and in quality."

"For the communities buying these Pop Up Parks I can see the appeal. Alot of them are manufactured by the same companies that produce the playgrounds for the public parks, so they already have an account. They also look pretty. Which is a bonus for the moms. The problem is, although they look pretty they are actually pretty un-rideable. They are prefab, so they are designed to ship easily which means after all the brightly colored rubberized and coated parts are snapped together their surface is slow and just performs poorly. Some of the designs have no flow which is another major problem plaguing the Pop Up Park. Looking good in a catalog does not always translate to a successful useable skatepark."

"There is however a silver lining with the Dunkirk Skatepark, the kids who ride at the park actually sat down with representatives from the company manufacturing the skatepark and designed it themselves. It sounds like Pop Up or not the new Dunkirk Public Skatepark is gonna be awesome. Thanks largely in part to the kids who ride there everyday!" - Jason Chapman The National Skateboarding Examiner
