Are signs of aging really all that bad?

While browsing through my Glamour the other day, I noticed a section about men and the things women love about them. Included was a section about the top 20 turn-ons according to both men and women. One woman listed crow's-feet as an attractive and "distinguished" trait about a man.

Rewind to the previous night when I was up late and saw a commercial for Hydroxatone, a product that allegedly makes your skin smooth and wrinkle-free. The commercial showcased several women with perfectly flawless skin. For that added enjoyment, men were in the background talking about how beautiful and young their wives looked after using this product.

Now, I am not sure about you, but these two opinions seem a tiny bit different don't you think? Why is it that when men age they are distinguished and sexy? On the other hand, when women age they are described as being old and haggard. Could it be that the very reason women feel "bad" about getting older is because they are constantly reminded they should always look young and vibrant?

Take your local Walgreens for example. There is usually an entire isle devoted to skin care. Within this isle, there is maybe a shelf that contains the products that are "just for men."  It pretty much screams hey guys, all you need is what is here on this little self, but ladies you need an entire isle.

My complaint is not that these types of products are out there and being used. In fact, there is nothing wrong with using these products at all. However, these products are mainly marketed to women and it is clearly implied that women should want to use them. What about those women who enjoy that whole aging thing? Are they any less attractive? Even more, what about the men out there that worry about aging?

So I propose this. If you are worried about aging please feel free to go ahead and peruse the skin care isle. If you are not worried about aging, then age all you want and do not feel guilty. After all, as long as you feel genuinely attractive about yourself that is all that should matter right?

Hey everyone thinks I'm much younger than I am, and at 23 it kinda bothers me...but in the years to come I'll appreciate that! There are so many double standards that affect women harder than they do men...not fair, but it's life I guess...right....
