You are the man in her life and every interaction she has with men throughout her life is going to be colored by her interaction with you. Your daughter loves you and needs you and you are good at raising her—don’t ever let anyone tell you you’re of secondary importance, because you’re not.
According to the US Census Bureau, there are just over 2 million custodial fathers in this country. There are millions more noncustodial fathers who remain close to their children and involved in their lives. Many of those single dads are navigating the minefield that is raising daughters.
ParentingPink.com ran a very interesting article this week called Single Fathers Raising Daughters: How to build a strong, meaningful relationship. The tips in the article are actually good for any parent but they are framed in the context of single fathers and daughters.
The article is peppered with heartwarming stories and anecdotes from single fathers of daughters. With all of the hype about deadbeat dads and irresponsible parents, it is refreshing to hear from some successful fathers who are doing their best to raise confident, intelligent, compassionate young women.

What a beautiful quote to start off your article! I see you've listed singledads as a helpful site. I have just begun writing for them, and have to say they really do offer a lot for the single dads out there.
As a single dad of a boy (now a young man of 26 with a wife and thriving career)I can truthfully say I am glad I was raising a son. My hat is off to single parents everywhere but especially dads raising daughters. There is a lot of dedication, love and sometimes sacrifice that goes into being a single mom or dad. I just can't imagine the extra elements of patience and understanding to takes to nurture and guide the emotional needs of a little girl. The example you set will determine the type of men she chooses for the rest of her life. Maybe there should be a recognized Single Parents Day.
Guess I should learn to spell my own name before hitting enter!
Thank you for your kind thoughts about Parenting Pink and Fathers & Families. Single dads raising daughters deserve a round of applause!
