
Britax Boulevard Carseat has a rear-facing weight limit of 33 lbs.
New recommendations from the American Academy of Pediatrics suggest leaving children in rear-facing carseats until the child is 2 years old, or for as long as the carseat will allow. Most convertible car seats have weight limits of 30-35 pounds in the rear-facing position.
Many parents put their children forward facing as soon as the reach the previous recommendation of 20 pounds and one year of age. The new recommendations are meant to encourage parents to keep their children rear facing as long as possible.
When a child in a forward-facing car seat is in a crash, their bodies are held in place by the five-point harness, but their heads and necks are thrown forward causing stress on the spinal cord. This video shows a crash test for both forward and rear facing children, and demonstrates the importance of keeping children rear facing.
