Single mom families cooking: Great ways to eat apples

Single mom families can spend quality and quantity time together preparing meals. At the very least, they can prepare the evening meal together. By doing this as a family, moms can teach their children about nutrition facts, and the families can grow closer. The children are also being taught important life skills. September is National Apple Month. These tips will help you to create healthy meals as and for your family. Each idea will incorporate apples.

Apples can be purchased at a number of locations in Bangor, including Hannaford and Sam's Club.

Single moms, gather your children around the table and enjoy an evening of preparing and eating dinner as a family.

  • Slice an apple and a pear. Lay the slices upon a bed of lettuce and shredded carrots. Serve with milk,  pasta and sauce, and with whole wheat Italian bread and honey or cinnamon butter.
  • Chop an apple and a pear. Cut grapes in half. Slice a banana. Top with low-fat vanilla yogurt. Serve with pot roast and potatoes, and a cup of milk.
  • Serve apple silces and peanut butter or a yogurt with tomato soup, grilled cheese sandwiches on whole wheat, and a glass of milk or water.
