Young girls' hearts are breaking all over the world, with the engagement of Kevin Jonas of the Jonas Brothers band to his girlfriend Danielle Deleasa.
Kevin Jonas, the eldest of the Jonas boys (and they are still boys) at age 21, proposed to his new fiancee, age 22, in New Jersey this morning. The news broke through People.com.
Why do kids get married? Biologically, the male human body doesn't stop growing until age 21, and maturity just begins at that point.
Add the pressures of a major celebrity lifestyle and extensive travel for the Jonas Brothers band, and you have little chance for a lasting relationship.
Love feels great at 21, doesn't it? And the world is your oyster. So why get hitched so early in life? Statistics show that young marriages fail at a higher rate than others, and history shows that young Hollywood and MTV marriages last five minutes.
Using the Jonas engagement as an example (because it's easier than admitting my own engagement at 21), let's imagine what your 20's are like when you are single. Exploring, learning, becoming selective, planning, possibly partying ( I don't know - but I've heard) and growing up to be the person whom you're finally ready to present to another person.
Love is not enough. Jonas has money and talent and fame and a good-looking fiancee, so why should he wait? Because he hasn't had a downturn in his career, for one thing, and that will change him. And because the bride-to-be is not one of the Jonas Brothers and may do some growing up on her own, along the tour trail. At age 22, she has the world ahead of her, too.
It doesn't matter what you've already seen or done in life by age 21; you are just leaving adolescence. You know, the stage of life filled with hormones and challenges and conquering the world - oh, wait, that's Survivor.
I'm sure the band's publicist and manager and agent wish them the best, but would prefer that all the Jonas brothers stay single awhile for their screaming fans of ages 12 - 20. Yes, there may be fans of other ages, but these are the ones who will be stalking the honeymoon.
Perhaps this will fizzle over time - it is, after all, an engagement and not an elopement. I'm big on romance, but singles are still single until they actually go through with the ceremony... and there are a few million female fans of Kevin Jonas who are counting on that.

Why don't people just leave the Jonas Brothers alone? They're people too! If you were deeply in love, and you were dating this person for a few years, would you want to marry them? There are many hollywood mariages that have fizzeled, due to age etcetera, but, I think it will last. If you've ever seen them together, I think they are cute! Leave Kanielle alone.

I married my husband at age 21 and we just celebrated our 27th anniversary. The challenge is presented by his career not his age. The Jonas parents seemed to have raised pretty level headed kids. Best wishes to the young couple
Okay seriously? I can list off hundreds of couples, just that I know, that got married at 20. They've been dating for a while and now want to spend the rest of their lives together. why are we badgering them about age?

I just got married two weeks ago and my husband and I are both 21. It's easy to say we're too young for marriage while the rest of the world has sex and lives together before marriage, unlike my husband and I. Along with Kevin and Danielle. SO shove it.
Kev knows what he's doing, Mr and Mrs Jonas have raised their children very well. Although I am kinda upset that he's getting married, I love and adore them both and i'm happy for them. If their marriage doesn't work out, it'll be because of his busy shedule, not because they don't love each other. I love him and wish them both all the best!

I am a HUGEfan of the jonas brothers so I kinda knew an engagement was on the way for Kevin. He said that he liked the idea of getting married at a young age so I'm happy for him. I've seen danielle and kevin together often so I know they are a good couple. Kevin is a great boy the only thing that could hurt their engagment would be the jonas brother's busy schedule. I love kev with all my heart an I only wish him and dani the best:)

Some people stay together even if they marry young, but that's not the majority. Also, there's a comment from "UGH" that shows immaturity. I'm 21 and I know anyone who is married at my age is going to say others should just shut up, but we'll see what happens when we're all 30.

Actually, going through fame and being in the public eye forces you to mature quicker, I mean look at the youngest of the band, Nick... he is extremely mature for his age! They have been dating for 2 years and being in the family he is, with the values, marriage is somethingyou want earlier. he has always said he wanted to wed early, I mean their parents did at 19 and they are still going strong... WHen your young life isnt focused around sex like many, you want things that most dont want until later. And since when is 21 young, years back it was the perfect age for marriage. I see this as the one bit of normalcy on his life, and he is always happiest whe Danielle is around so why are we trying to diminish that?! real fans would get over their jealousy or whatever it is and be happy for him! Believe me, as a 20 year old film student, I would love to get married soon, so it isnt just him, he isnt crazy... its like people think he cant be happy married!
