Bartering may be a way to lower medical bills

MSN recently did an article on the growing number of people who are resorting to bartering as a way to reduce medical bills. 

One of the things the health care debate has brought up is many people are forgoing health care because they can not afford to see a doctor.  A nagging injury being ignored may lead to something worse.  And what would have been a relatively inexpensive medical visit can potentially become an even larger medical bill. 

With a slow economy, bartering is a great way to get good medical service in a way that saves both you and your doctor money.  You can get quality medical treatment while saving money because what you provide is done at your cost.

A dentist may be willing to do dental work in exchange for cement work or a nice wristwatch.  Doctors may be willing to provide treatment if you are willing to paint or lay tile.  Lawyers, jewelers, handy-men are just a few people that can take advantage of bartering.

The best way to approach bartering is to do it directly with the doctor.  Calling and asking around generally is not as affective as selling your idea of bartering directly to the doctor.  

Don't own your own business?  Does your boss own a paint store or furniture company?  Perhaps they will let you barter by buying product at cost plus a small percentage.  You, your boss, and your doctor can all win in the end.   

The online bartering site Favorpals is a good place for a parent to browse and find out if they can use their skills to not only barter medical care, but other services as well.
